Are private jets an essential business tool?

In-person meetings are important to building long-standing business relationships but is private jet travel now an essential business tool rather than just a luxury?

Smart Aviation turns 20 next year, and our extensive experience and expertise has led us to become one of the world’s leading private jet charter brokers. We frequently fly well known personalities, VIPs, sporting legends and superstars to destinations across the globe, but we also regularly fly business people to important engagements.

Prompt business travel has been a priority since the inception of commercial flying, with Concorde leading the way from the 1970s up until the early 2000s.

In a digital world, where video calls are replacing a lot of face-to-face interactions, the Smart team still strongly believes that in-person meetings are essential to building long-standing business relationships and that private jet travel is now an essential business tool rather than just a luxury.

James Gregory, Smart’s Head of VIP Charter, said: “We consider private jets to be an extension of any large business these days. Flying by private jet increases efficiency for a number of reasons and fast travel has now become a necessity to many businesses.”

Here’s why:

Save valuable time at the airport, onboard and on the ground:

Flying by private jet saves time as clients can travel on their own schedule. A report by the European Business Aviation Association states that, on average, flying by private jet saves 127 minutes each journey.

Clients can arrive to board their private jet 15 minutes before departure, so they will not waste valuable time going through airport security or flying into commercial airports far away from where they need to be. Flying by private jet gets clients as close to their final destination as possible, including destinations where commercial airlines don’t fly to, and straight from the runway into a waiting vehicle.

Valuable time is also saved onboard as clients can work on the WIFI and dine onboard, taking all the stress out of additional planning and lost minutes.

As flying by private jet saves time, it also saves a business’ commitment to staff. Flying by private jet cuts back on lieu days, hotel costs, meal expenses, phone charges and much more.

Complete flexibility:

We regularly have clients book multi-city day trips, some choosing to do three or four cities in one day. Flying by private jets gives that flexibility to create your own schedule in order to cover as much ground in a day as possible. 20% of our private jet business bookings come in 48-hours prior to departure, so we can also deal with any last-minute requests.

No delays or cancellations:

FlightAware live reports says that 18,394 flights are currently delayed and there have been 1,251 cancelled flights already today.

It’s soul destroying being stranded at an airport following a full day of meetings. Workers can become tired and stressed just sitting around waiting for updates and extensive planning of alternative arrangements. Flying by private jet means that the client is always in control and these situations are always avoided.

Essential for mental and physical health of staff:

The physical and mental wellbeing of staff is vital to any successful business. Flying by private jet takes all the stress out of catching a flight on time, missing airport queues, avoids early starts that can lead to exhaustion, enables healthy food choices to be made in advance, encourages relaxation in comfortable chairs and beds in quiet cabins, and nourishes the body with 100% fresh air every few minutes to aid alertness. The mental health charity, Mind, states that fresh air improves mood, invigorates the brain, reduces feeling of stress or anger, helps you feel more relaxed, improves confidence and self-esteem. Whatsmore, staff will be more likely to avoid illnesses by escaping big airport groups and crowded aircraft.

Enhanced security and privacy:

The beauty of flying private is that it can be last minute and therefore, more confidential amongst competitors. We know this as we regularly fly professional footballers that are in contract talks with new clubs. Secrecy is of the utmost importance. Out of earshot conversations can be had onboard with colleagues and clients alike. Private terminals are also closed to the public, so belongings are always totally safe.
